Remembering OC and Patches
Our home feels a little quieter now.

This week we said goodbye to OC, our faithful companion for almost 19 years. As we grieve her loss, we also remember Patches, who shared our lives from 2008 until 2020.

OC came into our lives in a way that seemed almost meant to be. The weekend we returned home after meeting the twins, we heard the cries of a tiny kitten in the woods near our parking lot. She was frightened, alone, and injured, with a large sore on her chest. She was so small that it was hard to imagine how she had survived.

For a week, Henry sat on a rock and talked to her every day. She would not let him touch her. She was scared and cautious, watching from a distance. Day after day, he returned and patiently spoke to her until little by little she began to trust him. Before long, Henry became her best friend.

After a week, I set a tuna trap and finally caught her. We carried her across the street to Dr. Stroud, who helped begin what would become nearly two decades of love, companionship, and memories.

OC quickly made herself at home. She claimed Henry as her person and rarely let him out of her sight. Whether he was watching television in the TV room or sleeping at night, she was nearby. She became his snuggle buddy, often curled up at the foot of the bed or tucked into a blanket for one of her many naps. Over the years, blankets appeared on chairs and throughout the house because OC loved nothing more than finding a warm, soft place to settle in for the day.

Patches joined our family in 2008 and brought her own unique personality and companionship into our lives. She remained with us until 2020. When we moved to Playground Road, the change proved to be more than her tired soul could handle. Saying goodbye to her was difficult, but we were grateful for the years she shared with us.

Together, Patches and OC witnessed so many chapters of our lives. They were there through celebrations and challenges, ordinary days and special occasions. They greeted us when we came home, comforted us when we were tired, and filled our house with a warmth that only beloved pets can bring.

The years passed far too quickly. What began with a frightened kitten crying in the woods became a lifelong friendship built on trust, patience, and unconditional love.

Today, we miss OC deeply. We miss the quiet presence that followed Henry from room to room. We miss seeing her tucked into her favorite blanket. We miss the routines that became part of our daily lives for nearly nineteen years.

We take comfort in knowing that both OC and Patches were loved beyond measure. They were not just pets. They were family.

Thank you, Patches, for your years of companionship.

Thank you, OC, for trusting us all those years ago.

You both left paw prints on our hearts that time will never erase.

We thank Dr. Stroud and all the staff at the Walhalla Vet Clinic for their care at the end of this chapter of our lives.
