The Dart Hit Lakemont

Each month we throw the dart and go to the spot it hits.  This month the dart hole was bigger than the place we were going to.  Lakemont Ga is a tiny stop in the road just off 441.  There are 5 old storefronts, all but one were closed on Saturday.  Makes you wonder when they are open.

We made our way to The Open Door at Alley's Ol' store.  Quite a mouthful.  Were we surprised?  Quaint, charming and well worth the drive.  We left 441 just below the end of Clayton city proper and went over a winding road to Old 441 South.  The storefront was the first thing we saw when we stopped at the stop sign.  Did I mention charm & quaint?  This is the picture in the dictionary for each of those words.

The menu is perfect for the 2nd home community that it serves.  Sandwiches and soup if you want to eat here or casseroles if you need something to heat up when you get to your cabin.  We had the harvest sandwich on marble rye bread.  The apples were crisp, the cheese melted and the sprouts were a surprise, even though I knew they were coming.  We had strawberry cake for dessert.  If you want to know what spring tastes like, try their cake.

We enjoyed the gift shop in the restaurant and the one above the restaurant.  You can have anything monogrammed.  The charm of the building extended into the parking area and to the porch.  We will return, well worth the side trip to find.
