Sunday Drive 5/20/18

We took a drive Sunday up to the mountains.  I usually have appointments on Sunday but when I looked at the calendar...nothing, so we headed out for an adventure.  My friend Sandy joined Henry and me for a day trip.

First stop was the Rusty Bike Cafe in Clayton GA for breakfast. The multigrain pancakes are my favorite, but then Sandy ordered the western omelet and now I might have another favorite.  The service is great, the atmosphere was wonderful and the coffee was hot and refilled often. When we left we headed up Hwy 441 to show Sandy where the Mountain Man Grill was.  I love their hamburgers and they have gluten free cheesecakes for dessert.  We will be heading there in June for a late lunch early dinner.

After we did a U-turn and headed up Hwy 106 toward Highlands NC.  I love curvy roads and long-range vistas of mountains and waterfalls.  The mountain laurel and rhododendrons were in full bloom.  The new leaves on the trees were a multitude of colors of green.  Everything looked fresh and clean. We had had over 10 inches of rain last week so we could see mini waterfalls everywhere.

When we reached the stop sign we turned left toward Franklin and headed through the gorge.  Our first stop was Bridal Falls.

Bridal Veil Falls is great, you don't even have to get out of the car unless you want to walk under the falls like I did. We continued up the gorge road to our next stop Dry Falls.  Dry Falls is another waterfall you can walk behind.  Just a short walk down a path to the falls.  Henry videoed the walk and the falls.  Walking down the path the falls was all we could see, coming back up the path-rainbows in the mist took our breath away.

We finished our drive back on 441 with a stop at the produce store and the wine store.  Sandy has a new warning for anyone getting in my car, "you don't know where you are going or when you will get home".  We had a blast.  Till the next trip!
