A Great Resource for Families in Oconee County
Families living in and around Salem have a wonderful educational opportunity coming up.
The Salem Library is hosting self-directed STEM classes on Monday, March 9, at 10:00 AM for students ages 6 to 11. This program is especially helpful for home-schooled students, but it is open to other children who want hands-on learning in a supportive setting.
STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. These subjects build problem-solving skills, curiosity, and confidence. At this age, learning through experimentation and exploration makes a lasting impact.
Self-directed sessions allow students to move at their own pace. They can build, test ideas, and ask questions without pressure. It encourages independent thinking while still benefiting from a group environment.
In the western corner of South Carolina, we are fortunate to have strong community resources that support families. The Salem area, close to lakes, mountains, and national forest land, attracts many families who value both education and quality of life.
Local programs like this strengthen community connections. They give children a chance to interact, collaborate, and grow beyond the home classroom.
• Home-schooling families seeking enrichment
• Parents looking for structured daytime activities
• Children who enjoy hands-on science projects
• Families new to the Salem area wanting to connect
